💛 May – culture, connection, reflection and community

May brings a meaningful blend of cultural celebrations, community awareness events, family-focused dates and opportunities for reflection in early learning services. With National Families Week, Under 8s Week, National Reconciliation Week, National Sorry Day and a range of global awareness days across the month, May offers many thoughtful ways to support belonging, respect, inclusion and connection.

This month’s calendar includes a gentle mix of Australian and international events — from Vesak, Children’s Day – Kodomo no Hi, International Day of Families and World Day for Cultural Diversity, to World Bee Day, Outdoor Classroom Day, Walk Safely to School Day and National Simultaneous Storytime. You do not need to recognise every date. Instead, choose the events that best reflect your children, families, local community and service philosophy. This calendar helps make planning more intentional while also creating space for family voice, cultural responsiveness and meaningful community connections.

Available in A3 and A4 wall formats, plus an A4 list version, the calendar includes:
• Links to EYLF V2.0 Learning Outcomes
• Connections to the National Quality Standard
• Space for family ideas and contributions
• Room to add local events and service-specific celebrations

It is a helpful resource for strengthening Quality Area 1 – Educational Program and Practice and Quality Area 6 – Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities, while making learning visible in everyday planning.
