How to write a Learning Story

How to write your Learning Story

A learning story is used to narrate children’s learning processes. Educators capture meaningful learning moments that contribute and influence children’s learning.

Educators notice a moment or observe an experience over time and their interpretation of the child's competencies and dispositions toward learning in the learning story.

This is how a learning story can look;

Writing the Story- Learning Stories form part of the Learning Journey of each child in your room so use them to write about the richer learning experiences and to show the progress of the child’s learning from the beginning of the experience to its conclusion. Some Learning Stories can take place over weeks. You can add some photos to support the learning you have observed in this section. Our packs include a wording pack to help guide you with wording/terminology for your stories.

Identify the Learning Outcomes- Learning you observe can sometimes fit into all outcome areas. Choose one or two main ones and write them here. Use the outcome guides in our packs to choose the outcomes met each experience. Our packs have Learning Outcomes for EYLF, MTOP, QKLG and VEYLDF.
